Cummins X15 CM2450 X124B (2018 & Newer) Fault Code: 2368 PID: S82 SPN: 1112 FMI: 3/3 Engine Brake Actuator Driver 3 Circuit – Voltage Above Normal or Shorted to High Source

Lamp:
Amber

Reason:
Open circuit or high voltage detected at the engine brake solenoid number 3 signal circuit.

Effect:
Possible reduce engine braking performance.

Circuit Description:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls engine braking on cylinders 1 and 2 by sending a signal to engine brake solenoid 1. The ECM controls engine braking on cylinders 3 and 4 by sending a signal to engine brake solenoid number 2. The ECM controls engine braking on cylinders 5 and 6 by sending a signal to engine brake solenoid 3.

Component Location:
The engine brake solenoids are located under the valve cover. The engine brake solenoids are controlled through the engine harness from the ECM.

Conditions for Running the Diagnostics:
This diagnostic runs when the keyswitch is in the ON position and when the PWM device is being energized or de-energized. In some cases the diagnostics can also run at some fixed intervals.

Conditions for Setting the Fault Codes:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected the engine brake 3 Pulse-Width Modulated (PWM) signal was detected to be system voltage when the PWM signal was turned off.

Action Taken When the Fault Code is Active:
1. The ECM illuminates the amber check engine light immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails.
2. The engine brake 3 circuit will be disabled.

Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code:
1. To validate the repair, drive the vehicle and operate the engine brakes. This will allow the diagnostic to run. If the fault code does not become active again, the repair has been validated.
2. The fault code status displayed by the diagnostic tool will change to inactive immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
3. The ECM will turn off the amber check engine lamp after the diagnostic runs and passes.
4. The “reset all faults” command in the diagnostic tool can be used to clear active and inactive faults.

Shop Talk:
Possible causes of this fault are:
1. A short circuit to battery in the engine harness.
2. A malfunctioning engine brake solenoid.
