Detroit DD13 EPA10 (2010-13) Fault Code: SPN 190 FMI 0 (MCM) Engine Over Speed

DESCRIPTION:
This fault code sets when the engine speed is above 2500 rpm.

MONITORED PARAMETER:
Engine speed

TYPICAL ENABLING CONDITIONS:
Engine speed greater than idle.

MONITOR SEQUENCE:
None

EXECUTION FREQUENCY:
Continuous when enabling conditions met.

TYPICAL DURATION:
Two seconds

DASH LAMPS:
MIL

ENGINE REACTION:
Engine brakes are activated.

VERIFICATION:
Start and run the engine.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Vehicle was driven downhill in too low of a gear or without using the engine brakes.
2. Crankshaft speed sensor fault.
3. External combustible fluids drawn into the air intake.

NOTE: This fault code can be induced by the driver while the vehicle is traveling downhill. There will be a message in the instrument cluster (IC) to warn the driver that the engine speed is too high. The check engine light (CEL) will also sets at this time. Once the engine rpm is within normal operating range, the message in the IC and the CEL will no longer be present.

NOTE: This is an information only code. It means the engine went after than 2500 RPM for a specified time. Talk to the driver.
