The Turbo Speed Sensor is an inductive sensor. When the engine is running, the turbocharger shaft rotates past the Turbo Speed Sensor tip and a pulsed voltage signal is generated. The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the frequency of the signal generated by the Turbo Speed Sensor to calculate the turbo speed.
The turbo speed signal is used to calculate fuel injection.
Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) The turbocharger speed is less than the value needed for the observed intake manifold pressure
Observable symptoms
1) Intermittent power loss
Probable cause
1) Engine wiring harness
2) Incorrectly installed sensor
3) Turbo Speed Sensor
