Volvo All Engines (2010 Emissions) Fault Code: SPN 173 FMI 16 PID: Engine Exhaust Gas Temperature – Moderately Severe Level
This diagnostic function indicates malfunction at the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor. The purpose of the exhaust gas sensor is to contribute the relevant temperatures required for the temperature regulated aftertreatment diesel particulate filter regeneration control. A faulty EGT sensor can result with a failed aftertreatment (DPF) regeneration.
Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor
Observable symptoms
1) Low Power
2) Regeneration not possible
Probable cause
1) Resistance too high, Wiring harness
2) Discharge recirculation valve open
3) Restricted catalyst
4) Charge air system leakage
5) Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor
Engine derate according to error torque map
1) 541??C (1006??F) – 551??C (1022??F) = 25%
2) 551??C (1024??F) – 560??C (1040??F) = 50%
3) > 561??C (1042??F) = 100%
