Volvo All Engines (2010 Emissions) Fault Code: SPN 190 FMI 0 PID: Engine Speed – Moderately Severe Level

If code PID 190 is displayed, the engine has been over speeding. The engine could be running on engine oil from a faulty crankcase oil filter or worn engine piston rings. The engine speed will be limited to approximately 1200 rpm and the (VCB) Volvo Compression Brake will be activated to lower the engine speed. Diagnose and repair the engine over speed condition.

1) Engine speed too high

Observable symptoms
1) Unit Injector, Cut-Out

Probable cause
1) Wrong gear may be engaged (when engine braking)
2) The engine is running on engine oil

1) The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be removed when the engine speed is below deactivation limit
