Volvo All Engines (2010 Emissions) Fault Code: SPN 642 FMI 16 PID: PPID 89 Engine Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) Actuator 2 – Moderately Severe Level

The (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger Actuator is a self-contained component with motors, sensors and a control unit.
The (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger uses a movable nozzle to adjust the intake manifold pressure for various operating conditions. Nozzle movement is controlled by an actuator mounted on the tubocharger. When the Engine Control Module (ECM) Relay is energized, a fuse supplies battery voltage to the (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbocharger and the unit is grounded by means of the engine block.

Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) High actuator temperature
2) The temperature of the VGT actuator exceeds 125??C (257??F)

Observable symptoms
1) Low Power

Probable cause
1) High engine coolant temperature (ECT), Cooling System
2) Actuator
3) Poor coolant flow through the actuator
4) Actuator coolant lines are not connected correctly
5) Extreme driving conditions
6) Variable Geometry Turbo
