The (VECU) Vehicle Electronic Control Unit supplies and monitors the cranking signal to the starter motor relay. Several types of starter cranking protection are provided so the starter cannot be engaged in unwanted conditions. The starter cranking protection will also limit the maximum cranking time to 18 seconds without cycling the key.
Observable symptoms
1) Starter motor does not run
Probable cause
1) Starter motor relay (K65)
2) Wire between Engine Control Module (ECM) and starter motor relay
3) Supply wire between the S15 connector and the K65 connector
4) Engine control module (ECM)
