Cummins X15 CM2350 X116B Performance Series (2018 & Newer) Fault Code: 3565 PID: SPN: 5394 FMI: 3/3 Aftertreatment 1 Diesel Exhaust Fluid Dosing Valve 1 Circuit – Voltage Above Normal or Shorted to High Source

Lamp:
Amber

Reason:
A circuit error has been detected in the aftertreatment diesel exhaust fluid dosing valve circuit.

Effect:
Possible reduced engine performance.

Circuit Description:
The aftertreatment diesel exhaust fluid dosing valve is controlled by the ECM. When the Engine Control Module (ECM) commands DEF dosing, the ECM sends a Pulse-Width Modulated (PWM) signal to the dosing valve, which opens the dosing valve and allows DEF to be sprayed into the exhaust stream.

Component Location:
The aftertreatment diesel exhaust fluid dosing valve is installed in the exhaust system. It is mounted directly to the aftertreatment decomposition tube, before the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst. Installation position will vary, based on the aftertreatment architecture and the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

Conditions for Running the Diagnostics:
This diagnostic runs at initial key ON.

Conditions for Setting the Fault Code:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) detected the aftertreatment diesel exhaust fluid dosing valve circuit was shorted high, shorted low, or open.

Action Taken When the Fault Code is Active:
1. The ECM illuminates the amber check engine lamp and/or the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails.
2. Diesel exhaust fluid injection into the aftertreatment system is disabled.
3. Engine torque will be reduced if the engine is operated for an extended period of time with this fault active.
4. Engine torque will be severely reduced.

Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code:
1. To validate the repair, start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, shut OFF the engine, perform a key cycle, and leave the key in the ON position for 1 minute.
2. To validate the repair, perform the “aftertreatment diesel exhaust fluid doser pump override test” found under “ECM diagnostic tests” in the recommended diagnostic tool or equivalent.
3. The fault code status displayed by the recommended diagnostic tool or equivalent will change to inactive immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
4. The ECM will turn off the amber check engine lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.
5. For On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) engines, the ECM will extinguish the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) after three consecutive trips where the diagnostic runs and passes.
6. The “reset all faults” command in the recommended diagnostic tool or equivalent can be used to clear active and inactive faults, as well as extinguish the MIL for OBD applications.

Shop Talk:
Possible causes of this fault code include:
1. Open circuit in the diesel exhaust fluid dosing valve.
2. A short circuit to battery in the OEM harness.
3. A short circuit to ground in the OEM harness.
4. An open circuit in the OEM harness.
5. Reference the appropriate OEM wiring diagram when troubleshooting circuits that utilize wiring supplied by the OEM.
6. For intermittent power supply and datalink communication issues with aftertreatment components, it is highly recommended that the OEM power distribution center fuses and relays be thoroughly checked for loose, missing or intermittent connections.
7. After the repair, It is Important to idle the engine for a minimum of 5 minutes to clear the derate.
