PACCAR PX-9 CM2350 (2013-17) Fault Code:291 PID:SID 248 SPN:625 FMI:9 Proprietary Datalink Error (OEM/Vehicle Datalink) – Abnormal Update Rate

Reason:
Proprietary Data Link Error (OEM/Vehicle Data Link) – Abnormal Update Rate. The immobilizer anti-theft system will not operate properly. The engine could possibly not start.

Effect:
The immobilizer anti-theft system will not operate properly. The engine could possibly not start.

Circuit Description:
The immobilizer anti-theft device is connected to the primary engine electronic control module (ECM) through a J1939 data link network. Messages sent from the immobilizer anti-theft device are received by the Cummins® ECM and are used to control the anti-theft features. The Cummins® ECM and immobilizer anti theft device must be configured properly so that proper operation of the multiplexed components will occur.

Component Location:
The SAE J1939 data link wiring and the SAE J1939 devices vary by OEM options.

Conditions for Running the Diagnostics:
The diagnostic runs continuously when the keyswitch in in the ON position.

Conditions for Setting the Fault Codes:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) was not able to communicate with the immobilizer anti-theft system via the J1939 data link

Action Taken When the Fault Code is Active:
The ECM illuminates the red STOP ENGINE lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and fails.

Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code:
The ECM will turn off the red STOP ENGINE lamp immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.

Shop Talk:
When the ECM is set up to receive information from an OEM device, but the OEM device is not be transmitting the message for that component. Or when a multiplexed component is enabled in the Cummins® ECM, but the source address of the OEM device transmitting the component message is incorrect in the Cummins® ECM.

Possible Causes:
1) Bad service data link
2) Open or short on the service data link
3) Faulty OEM harness
4) Inactive fault codes
