Volvo All Engines (2010 Emissions) Fault Code: SPN 97 FMI 0 PID: Water in Fuel Indicator

Voltage from the Engine Control Module (ECM) is applied to the Water In Fuel Filter Sensor when the ignition switch is in the ON position. If water is detected, the Water In Fuel Filter sensor will notify the driver to drain the water from the bowl by illuminating a lamp on the dash of the vehicle.

Conditions for diagnostic trouble code (DTC):
1) The fuel contains water
2) Defective sensor

Observable symptoms
1) Limited engine speed: 2100rpm.
2) Engine power reduced to 28%

Probable cause
1) Water in the fuel bowl in the fuel filter housing
2) Engine control module (ECM): Defective or faulty
3) Defective sensor
