PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P140E Crankcase Ventilation Module Rotor Speed – Data Valid but Too Low, Most Severe

PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P140E Crankcase Ventilation Module Rotor Speed – Data Valid but Too Low, Most Severe

SET CONDITIONS:
The PCI ECU (D420) detects that the measured rotating speed of the internal element is less than 8000 rpm for longer than 10 seconds.

DIAGNOSTIC CONDITION:
This diagnostic runs:
1. 600 seconds after the engine has been started and
2. When coolant temperature is above 140°F [60°C] and
3. System state is not stationary or cranking and
4. Engine operating mode is not test mode

CORRESPONDING OBD READINESS MONITOR:
None

RESET CONDITION:
This DTC changes to inactive when the fault is no longer detected.

REPAIR VERIFICATION:
1. Clear all DTCs.
2. Test drive or operate the vehicle to meet the diagnostic conditions and set conditions.
3. Did the DTC come back? (Can be pending, inactive or active)
– No, repair successful
– Yes, repair unsuccessful

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Blown fuse
2. Faulty crankcase ventilation module wiring, power supply or ground wiring in the J2 or J3 engine harness
3. Faulty crankcase ventilation module
4. Valve seal(s) push up from valve guide(s)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
1. The electromotor of the crankcase ventilation module (L136) drives an internal element at 12,000 rpm to separate the heavier oil particles from the crankcase gas. The rotating speed of the internal element is monitored by the PCI ECU.
2. P153B can also be active when this DTC is active.
3. Fault type:
– Two drive cycle MIL on
– Three drive cycle MIL recovery

IMPORTANT: If there is oil residue in the inlet side of the VTG turbocharger in combination with this DTC code, first diagnose the crankcase ventilation for the cause of the oil residue. The oil residue is commonly caused by a failing crankcase ventilation module.
